Getting Started - Selling on OpenDay
A step-by-step guide to launching your live commerce business.
Welcome to OpenDay! This guide covers the essentials to set up your shop, add products, and go live. By the end of this week, you'll be ready to make your first sale.
Day 1: Account & Payouts
Your first day is about getting your account created and connecting your bank for payouts.
Step 1: Select Your Plan
Choose a subscription tier that fits your goals. All plans include a 14-day free trial, and you can upgrade or downgrade anytime.
| Tier | Price (Monthly) | Commission | Key Features |
|---|---|---|---|
| Creator Launchpad | $39 | 8% | 720p HD streaming, 500 viewers, 20 stream hours |
| Business Accelerator | $149 | 5% | 1080p FHD streaming, 2,000 viewers, 50 stream hours |
| Enterprise Scale | $499 | 2% | 1080p FHD, 10,000 viewers, 150 stream hours, API |
💡 Pro Tip: Start with the Creator Launchpad if you're new. You can easily upgrade as your channel grows.
Step 2: Set Up Stripe Connect for Payouts
After selecting a plan, you'll be prompted to set up Stripe Connect. This is how you get paid.
What You'll Need:
- Government-issued ID (Driver's License or Passport)
- Business information (EIN for businesses, SSN for sole proprietors)
- Bank account details (Account and routing numbers)
Follow the on-screen prompts to enter your details and upload your ID. Most verifications are instant. Once approved, your stream key and channel will be activated.
Day 2-3: Set Up Your Shop Profile
Customize your shop to help customers find and trust your brand. Navigate to Settings → Shop Settings.
- Avatar (Required): Your logo or profile picture (400x400px recommended).
- Banner Image (Recommended): A header image for your shop page (1200x300px).
- Username (Required): Your unique channel URL (e.g.,
openday.com/yourshop). This cannot be changed, so choose carefully! - Shop Description (Required): Tell customers who you are and what you sell (50-500 characters). Supports Markdown for formatting.
- Shop Category (Required): Choose your primary category for discoverability.
- Social Media: Link your Instagram, TikTok, Facebook, etc., to build credibility.
Configure Your Policies
Clear policies build trust.
- Shipping Policy (Required): Go to Settings → Shipping Settings.
- What to include: Processing time (e.g., "Ships in 1-2 business days"), carriers used (USPS, FedEx), and your international shipping policy.
- Return Policy (Required): Go to Settings → Shop Settings.
- What to include: Your return window (e.g., "30-day returns"), item condition requirements (e.g., "must be unused"), who pays return shipping, and any exclusions (e.g., "final sale items").
Day 4-5: Add Your First Products
Don't list your entire catalog. Start with 5-10 of your best products. Navigate to Products → Add New Product.
Fill out the essential fields to get your product live:
- Basic Information
- Product Name: Be clear and descriptive (e.g., "Nike Air Max 270 - Black/White - Size 10").
Description: Highlight key features and benefits. Use bullet points for easy reading.
Product Images
- Main Image (Required): Use a high-quality, well-lit photo (1000x1000px recommended).
- Additional Images: Show different angles and the product in use. Products with 3+ photos sell better.
Product Clips (Optional): Short 10-60 second videos are highly effective for engagement.
Pricing
- Regular Price (Required): Your standard retail price.
Sale Price (Optional): A discounted price, shown with a "strikethrough" on the regular price. Great for creating urgency during a live stream.
Inventory
- Quantity (Required): The current stock level. This automatically decreases as you make sales.
SKU (Optional): A unique code (e.g., "SHIRT-BLK-M") to track your inventory.
Categorization & Variants
- Category: Helps customers find your product in search.
- Product Variants (Optional): Use this if your product has options like size or color. You can set different prices, quantities, and images for each variant.
Product Status
- Draft: Private. Use this while building your listing.
- Active: Public and purchasable.
- Featured: Active and highlighted on your channel page. Use this for products you plan to show on stream.
Day 6-7: Prepare for Your First Live Stream
Choose your streaming method and get your content ready.
Option 1: Web Broadcast (Recommended for Beginners)
Stream directly from your browser. No extra software needed.
- How: Go to Stream Manager → Start Web Broadcast, grant camera/mic permissions, and click "Go Live."
- Equipment: A computer with a webcam, a microphone, and a stable internet connection (5+ Mbps upload recommended).
Option 2: Streaming Software (Advanced)
Use software like OBS Studio or Streamlabs for a professional production with multiple cameras, overlays, and transitions.
- How: Copy your Stream Key and Ingest Endpoint from Settings → Stream into your software.
- Equipment: Requires a DSLR/mirrorless camera, capture card, and external microphone.
💡 Pro Tip: Start with the Web Broadcast for your first few streams. You can always upgrade your setup later.
Set Your Stream Title & Schedule
In Settings → Channel Settings, create a catchy title that describes your event (e.g., "New Fall Collection Launch - 30% Off!"). You can also schedule your stream in advance to notify your followers.
