OpenDay Seller Onboarding Guide: Start Selling Live
Welcome to OpenDay. We make it simple to broadcast live video and sell products directly to your viewers. You only pay a simple transaction fee when you make a sale.
This guide walks you through everything you need to set up your seller account and launch your first stream. The full setup takes just 5 to 10 minutes.
What You Need Before You Start
Have these items ready to make the process as fast as possible:
- A government-issued ID (driver's license or passport)
- Your bank account details to receive payouts
- Your Social Security Number (SSN) or Employer Identification Number (EIN)
- At least one product photo
Step 1: Create Your Account
Go to openday.com and tap Join for free. Enter your username, email address, and password. We will send you a confirmation email. Click the link in that email to verify your account.
Note: If you already have a buyer account, you can upgrade it to a seller account directly from your profile settings.
Step 2: Start Seller Onboarding
Sign in and open your profile menu. Select Open a Shop. Here, you will see a quick overview of the OpenDay seller program benefits:
- Advanced HD streaming included at no extra cost
- Unlimited streaming hours so you can go live whenever you want
- Highly competitive platform fees: just 7% on product sales, which drops to 3.5% on any portion of an item's price above $500
- Standard payment processing fee of 2.9% + $0.30 per transaction
Step 3: Set Up Your Payment Account
Next, you will set up your payment account to receive your payouts. You will need to provide:
- Your business or personal details
- Bank account information for your deposits
- Tax information (SSN or EIN)
OpenDay never stores your banking or tax details directly. Once you finish this step, we automatically build your streaming channel, chat room, and resources in the background.
Step 4: Configure Your Shipping Settings
Set up your shipping defaults before you list any items. Go to Shop Settings > Shipping and configure:
- Shipping address: The location your packages leave from.
- Processing time: The number of days you need to pack and ship an order (0–30 days).
- Free shipping threshold (optional): Offer free shipping when buyers spend over a certain amount, like $50.
OpenDay calculates shipping rates automatically using commercial carrier rates. Your buyers see one simple shipping price at checkout. If you choose to offer free shipping, we deduct the label cost from your final payout.
Step 5: Add Your Products
Go to Products > Add New Product to build your catalog.
- Product name and description: Be specific and highlight key details.
- Photos: Upload a main image and up to four extra photos. Clear, well-lit images drive more sales.
- Price: Set your regular price and an optional sale price.
- Category and subcategory: Help buyers find your items faster.
- Quantity in stock: We track your inventory automatically so you never oversell.
- Variants (optional): Add different sizes or colors with individual stock levels.
Shipping details per product:
Choose Calculated shipping. Enter the product's dimensions and weight. OpenDay calculates the exact shipping cost for each buyer based on their location.
Pro Tip: Add at least 3 products before your first stream so your viewers have items to browse immediately.
Step 6: Go Live
When you feel ready, open the Stream page. From this dashboard, you can:
- Start a live broadcast right from your web browser.
- Feature specific products on screen during your stream.
- Chat directly with viewers in real time.
- Run special promotions like featured products or flash sales.
When a viewer buys an item during your stream, an alert pops up in the live chat to build excitement with your audience. We recommend doing a preview stream first. This lets you test your camera, lighting, audio, and product display before you go live to the public.
How You Get Paid
We keep the payout process completely transparent. Here is the exact money flow after a successful sale:
- The customer pays at checkout (product + shipping + tax).
- You pack the order and generate a shipping label through OpenDay.
- The package is delivered (OpenDay confirms delivery via tracking).
- We schedule your payout 3 days after delivery to allow time for any disputes.
- The funds hit your bank account automatically.
Fee Breakdown Example
Here is exactly what you make on a $50 product with calculated shipping:

Note on high-ticket items: Our platform fee drops significantly on expensive products. If you sell an $800 item, you pay 7% on the first $500, and only 3.5% on the remaining $300. This lowers your effective platform fee rate to just 5.69%.
