Start Selling

OpenDay is a live streaming marketplace where you broadcast live video and sell products to viewers in real time. No monthly fees, no subscriptions — just a simple transaction fee when you make a sale.

This guide walks you through everything you need to set up your seller account and start selling.

What You'll Need

Before you begin, have the following ready:

  • A government-issued ID (driver's license or passport)
  • Your bank account details for receiving payouts
  • Your Social Security Number (SSN) or Employer Identification Number (EIN)
  • At least one product photo

The full setup takes about 5–10 minutes.

Step 1: Create Your Account

Head to openday.com and tap Sign Up. Enter your username, email address, and password. You'll receive a confirmation email — click the link to verify your account.

If you already have a buyer account, you can upgrade it to a seller account from your profile settings.

Step 2: Start Seller Onboarding

Once you're signed in, navigate to Open a Shop from your profile menu. You'll see an overview of OpenDay's seller program, including:

  • Advanced HD streaming included at no extra cost
  • Unlimited streaming hours — go live as often as you'd like
  • 7% platform fee on product sales (drops to 3.5% on the portion above $500)
  • 2.9% + $0.30 payment processing fee per transaction

Tap Get Started to begin the verification process.

Step 3: Verify Your Identity

OpenDay uses Stripe to handle payments, and Stripe requires identity verification before you can accept money. You'll be guided through a quick process where you:

  1. Upload a photo of your government-issued ID
  2. Confirm your personal details

This usually takes just a couple of minutes. In some cases, verification may take up to 24 hours.

Step 4: Set Up Your Payment Account

After identity verification, you'll complete your Stripe Connect account setup. This is where you provide:

  • Your business or personal details
  • Bank account information (where your payouts will be deposited)
  • Tax information (SSN or EIN)

Everything is handled securely through Stripe's embedded onboarding — OpenDay never stores your banking or tax details directly.

Once complete, your streaming channel is automatically created in the background. You'll see a progress indicator while your channel, chat room, and streaming resources are set up (this only takes a moment).

Step 5: Configure Your Shipping Settings

Before listing products, set up your shipping defaults. Go to Shop Settings > Shipping and configure:

  • Ship-from address — where your packages will ship from
  • Processing time — how many days you need before shipping an order (0–30 days)
  • Free shipping threshold (optional) — for example, free shipping on orders over $50

OpenDay handles shipping rates automatically using commercial carrier rates. Your buyers see a single, simple shipping price at checkout — no confusing carrier or service options. If you offer free shipping, the label cost is deducted from your payout.

Step 6: Add Your Products

Navigate to Products > Add New Product and fill in the details:

  • Product name and description — be specific and descriptive
  • Photos — upload a main image plus up to four additional photos. Clear, well-lit images make a big difference
  • Price — set a regular price and an optional sale price
  • Category and subcategory — helps buyers find your products
  • Quantity in stock — OpenDay tracks inventory automatically
  • Variants (optional) — if your product comes in different sizes or colors, add variants with individual stock levels

Shipping details per product

For each product, choose a shipping type:

  • Calculated shipping — enter the product's dimensions and weight, and OpenDay calculates the shipping cost for each buyer based on their location

You can also assign a shipping category to improve rate accuracy:

Category Best for
General Most standard products
Fragile Breakable items like glass or ceramics (accounts for extra packaging)
Textile Clothing, fabrics, and soft goods
Lightweight Small items like jewelry or accessories

We recommend adding at least 3 products before your first stream so viewers have something to browse.

Step 7: Go Live

When you're ready, head to the Stream Manager. From here you can:

  • Start a live broadcast directly from your browser
  • Feature specific products during your stream
  • Chat with viewers in real time
  • Run special promotions like auctions or flash sales

When a viewer purchases something during your stream, a notification pops up in the live chat so everyone can see the excitement.

Tip: Consider doing a private preview stream first to test your setup — camera, lighting, audio, and product display — before going live to the public.

How You Get Paid

Here's how the money flows after a sale:

  1. Customer pays at checkout (product + shipping + tax)
  2. You ship the order and generate a shipping label through OpenDay
  3. Package is delivered — OpenDay confirms delivery via tracking
  4. Payout is scheduled 3 days after delivery (this gives time for any disputes)
  5. Funds hit your bank account via Stripe

Fee breakdown example

For a $50 product with calculated shipping:

Amount
Customer pays $61.19
Platform fee (7% on product) −$3.50
Processing fee (2.9% + $0.30) −$2.07
Shipping label cost −$6.09
Your payout $49.53

On higher-ticket items, the platform fee drops. For example, on an $800 product, you'd pay 7% on the first $500 and only 3.5% on the remaining $300 — bringing the effective rate down to 5.69%.

Once everything is set up, your dashboard becomes your home base. From there you can:
