Privacy Policy

OpenDay, LLC ("OpenDay," "we," "us," or "our") is a live streaming e-commerce platform based in Texas, USA. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, share, and protect your personal information when you use our platform — whether you're browsing, buying, selling, or streaming.

By using OpenDay, you agree to the practices described here. If you have questions, reach out to us at support@openday.com.

What Information We Collect

Account Information

When you create an OpenDay account, we collect your email address, username, and password. Your password is managed securely by our authentication provider (Amazon Cognito) and is never visible to or stored by OpenDay directly.

If you sign up as a seller, we also collect your display name, channel description, seller category, and social media links you choose to share.

Payment Information

We use Stripe to process all payments. When you make a purchase, Stripe collects your payment details (credit card number, billing address, etc.) directly. OpenDay never sees or stores your full credit card number, CVV, or bank account details. We do store Stripe-generated reference IDs (like customer IDs and payment intent IDs) so we can connect your orders to your account.

For sellers, Stripe Connect handles identity verification, bank account details, and payouts. Stripe may collect additional identity documents as part of their verification process — that information is handled entirely by Stripe under their own privacy policy.

Shipping Information

When you place an order, we collect the recipient's name, shipping address, and optionally a phone number. For sellers, we store your ship-from address so we can calculate shipping rates and generate labels. This information is shared with our shipping provider, EasyPost, to create labels and track packages.

Order and Transaction Data

We keep records of your orders including items purchased, quantities, prices, taxes, shipping costs, and order status. For sellers, we also track payout amounts, platform fees, and shipping costs. All monetary amounts are stored in cents to avoid rounding errors. This data is retained for financial reporting, tax compliance, and dispute resolution.

Streaming and Chat Data

When sellers go live on OpenDay, our streaming infrastructure (powered by Amazon IVS) processes the video feed. We store stream metadata like start/end times, viewer counts, and recording information. Chat messages sent during live streams are stored so sellers and viewers can reference them.

Profile and Content

Any content you post on OpenDay — product listings, newsfeed posts, comments, reviews, direct messages, and profile photos — is stored on our platform. Product images and channel assets are stored using Amazon S3.

Analytics and Usage Data

With your consent, we use Google Analytics 4 to understand how people use OpenDay. We've configured this with privacy in mind: IP addresses are anonymized, advertising features are disabled, and we do not send your OpenDay user ID to Google. Analytics cookies are only set if you opt in through our cookie consent banner.

Usage data may include pages visited, features used, search queries, and e-commerce interactions (like adding items to your cart or completing a purchase).

Cookies and Local Storage

We use a small number of cookies and browser storage items:

  • Essential cookies keep you logged in and remember your preferences (like dark mode and sidebar layout). These are always active.
  • Analytics cookies (Google Analytics: _ga , _gid ) are only set if you opt in. They help us understand how the platform is used.
  • Consent preferences are stored locally so we remember your cookie choices.

You can manage your cookie preferences at any time through the cookie consent banner or your browser settings.

How We Use Your Information

We use your information to run and improve OpenDay. Specifically, we use it to:

  • Provide the platform — process orders, calculate shipping rates, facilitate payments, enable live streaming, and deliver notifications about your orders and account.
  • Communicate with you — send order confirmations, shipping updates, payout notifications, and respond to support requests via email.
  • Improve the experience — analyze usage patterns (with your consent) to fix bugs, improve features, and understand what's working.
  • Prevent fraud and abuse — verify seller identities (via Stripe), validate shipping addresses, detect suspicious activity, and enforce our terms of service.
  • Meet legal obligations — maintain financial records for tax reporting, respond to legal requests, and comply with applicable laws.

We do not sell your personal information. We do not use your data for targeted advertising.

Who We Share Your Information With

We share your information only with the services needed to operate OpenDay. Here's who and why:

Stripe (Payments)

Stripe processes all payments on our platform. When you buy something, your email, name, shipping address, and order details are shared with Stripe to complete the transaction and detect fraud. For sellers, Stripe handles identity verification and payouts. Stripe is PCI-DSS Level 1 certified — the highest level of payment security. See Stripe's Privacy Policy.

EasyPost (Shipping)

EasyPost powers our shipping rates, labels, and tracking. When a seller ships your order, your shipping address, recipient name, and package details are shared with EasyPost, which in turn shares them with the carrier (USPS, FedEx, UPS, or DHL) handling your delivery. See EasyPost's Privacy Policy.

Amazon Web Services (Infrastructure)

Our entire platform runs on AWS, including our database (DynamoDB), authentication (Cognito), streaming (IVS), email (SES), search (OpenSearch), content delivery (CloudFront), and caching (ElastiCache). All data is stored in AWS data centers in the United States. AWS encrypts data both in transit and at rest. See AWS's Privacy Policy.

Google Analytics (Usage Analytics)

If you opt in to analytics cookies, anonymized usage data is sent to Google Analytics 4. We've disabled advertising features and user ID tracking. Google processes this data under their own terms. See Google's Privacy Policy.

Shipping Carriers

When your order ships, your name and shipping address are shared with the carrier (USPS, FedEx, UPS, or DHL) selected for your package. This is necessary for delivery and tracking.

Other Buyers and Sellers

When you place an order, the seller sees your name, shipping address, and order details so they can fulfill it. When you leave a review, your username and review content are visible to other users. Newsfeed posts, comments, and public profile information are visible to anyone on the platform.

We do not share your information with any other third parties for marketing or advertising purposes.

How We Protect Your Information

We take security seriously:

  • Encryption in transit — all data sent between your browser and our servers is encrypted using HTTPS/TLS.
  • Encryption at rest — our databases and file storage use AWS encryption.
  • Authentication — we use Amazon Cognito for secure login with JWT tokens. Passwords are hashed and never stored in our own systems.
  • Webhook verification — all incoming data from Stripe and EasyPost is verified using cryptographic signatures (HMAC SHA256) to prevent tampering.
  • Secrets management — API keys and sensitive credentials are stored in AWS Secrets Manager, never in our code or environment variables.
  • CORS and CSRF protection — our API validates request origins and requires custom headers to prevent cross-site attacks.
  • Access controls — sellers can only access their own orders and products. Customers can only access their own data. All API endpoints enforce authorization.

No system is 100% secure, but we work to follow industry best practices and address vulnerabilities promptly.

Your Choices and Rights

Managing Your Account

You can update your profile information, channel details, and shipping address at any time through your account settings or the Business Info page (for sellers).

Deleting Your Account

You can delete your account from your account settings. When you do:

  • Your username and email are anonymized (replaced with deleted-{timestamp} ).
  • Your cart, wishlist, follower relationships, notifications, and recordings are permanently deleted.
  • Your login is disabled so no one can access the account.
  • Your order history is retained in anonymized form for financial and legal compliance (tax records, dispute resolution).
  • If you're a seller, your products are archived and your Stripe Connect account remains in Stripe's system (Stripe does not allow programmatic deletion of Express accounts — you can request deletion directly from Stripe).

Closing Your Account (Sellers)

Sellers can also choose to close their account, which is reversible. This hides your products and stops your streams but keeps your data intact in case you want to reopen.

You can change your cookie preferences at any time through the consent banner. Declining analytics cookies means no usage data is sent to Google Analytics. Essential cookies cannot be disabled since they're needed for the platform to function.

Accessing Your Data

If you'd like a copy of the personal data we hold about you, or if you want to correct inaccurate information, contact us at support@openday.com and we'll work with you to fulfill your request.

Data Retention

We keep your data for as long as your account is active or as needed to provide our services. Here's how long specific data types are retained:

  • Account and profile data — until you delete your account.
  • Order and transaction data — retained indefinitely for financial reporting, tax compliance, and dispute resolution, even after account deletion (in anonymized form).
  • Chat messages — retained while your account is active.
  • Analytics data — Google Analytics retains data for 14 months by default.
  • Cookies — analytics cookies expire within 2-7 days; consent preferences are stored locally until cleared.
  • Notifications — retained until you delete them or delete your account.
  • Shipping labels and tracking — retained as part of order records.

Children's Privacy

OpenDay is not intended for children under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child under 13 has provided us with personal information, please contact us at support@openday.com and we will take steps to delete it.

Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we do, we'll update the "Last Updated" date at the top. For significant changes, we'll notify you through the platform or by email. We encourage you to review this page periodically.
